Why Dubai Outpaces Maldives for Indian Long-Weekend Travelers

Dubai is surging ahead of the Maldives as the top choice for Indian long-weekend travelers in Q1 2026, fueled by Republic Day (Jan 26) creating a January 23-26 break. Agoda is also seeing domestic search growth of 115% YoY, and outbound of 63% domestically. Goa is dominating domestically, but Dubai is dominating internationally with its proximity, affordability, and variety. Budget airlines (3-4 hours), visa on arrival, and offers below 50,000 attract families with low incomes to do away with more expensive seaplanes and resorts inthe  Maldives (80,000 and above). Urban Indians like desert safari tours, malls, nightlife, and the Maldives, which are more of a longer honeymoon. There is a booking peak of post-holiday recovery, in which the infrastructure of Dubai is superior to its ability to cope with crowds. Such a change emphasises the experience, fast escapes rather than solitude on the beach.

Long-Weekend Travel Surge

Dubai bookings on the long-weekends increased significantly during the Republic Day 2026 compared to Maldives, because of their easy accessibility and a wide range of activities such as Burj Khalifa views.

Cost and Accessibility Edge

The cost of a trip to Dublin is cheaper, and its flights are not transited, as compared to the Maldives, which is costly and takes a longer route.
