Bangladesh Bank to release new Tk 1,000, Tk 50 and Tk 20 currency from 2 June 2025
The Bangladesh Central Bank has announced a new set of their designated banknotes of Tk 1,000, Tk 50 and Tk 20 denominations in the current market from Sunday, 2 June 2025. Ahead of the Eid-ul-Adha festival, the central bank will be releasing the first phase.
The first phase of the circulation will have three denominations Tk 1,000, Tk 50 and Tk 20 with all the denominations planned to be released in phases. The new denominations are expected to be available from 2 or 3 June 2025 as the complete denomination release will take time. The designs will have all the denominations – Tk2, Tk5, Tk10, Tk20, Tk50, Tk100, Tk200, Tk500 and Tk1,000.
The new designs aim to be themed on renowned historical and archeological architectures of Bangladesh. “The new designs do not feature any individual’s picture. The notes highlight the country’s scenery and heritage”, said Arif Hossain Khan, a Bangladesh Bank spokesperson.
He also further shared that, “The governor has already announced what the new note designs will be like. These notes will not feature any individual’s picture. Instead, they have been designed to emphasise the country’s heritage, nature, and cultural artefacts.”
The Bangladesh currency so far has offered the images and tributes of founding fathers, liberation war imagery and cultural monuments. Standing in contrast, the Tk 5 is said to have the images of Abu Sayeed and Mugdha, the faces of youth led protests that ousted the former PM in 2024, reports The Daily Star.
