Recently Ashanti opened up about her motherhood experience and she said that she would love to expand her family.
During an interview on TODAY with Jenna & Friends on February 28, the singer shared that she would “definitely” like to have more children after welcoming her son, Kareem, with Nelly in July 2024. However, she admitted she was not in a rush. “Maybe not right this second,” she laughed, adding that she’s already imagining her second child.
Talking about her baby boy, Ashanti called Kareem “the sweetest little angel” and said he brings her endless joy. “He just laughs and smiles all day. I couldn’t imagine life without him now,” she said.
The singer also reflected on her rekindled romance with Nelly. After years apart, the two reunited in 2021 at a Verzuz battle featuring Ja Rule and Fat Joe.
“I hadn’t seen him in seven years—no text, no call, nothing,” she recalled. But when they hugged that night, something changed. “I didn’t feel mad,” she said.
After exchanging numbers through a mutual friend, the couple reconnected, leading to their “second first date” around Valentine’s Day. “It was new but familiar, like no time had passed,” Ashanti said.
Now, as they embrace parenthood, Ashanti and Nelly’s love story continues to grow—perhaps with another little one in the future.
