Nadler says, Barr agrees to testify in front of House Judiciary Committee on 31 March, over Roger Stone case

Nadler says, Barr agrees to testify in front of House Judiciary Committee on 31 March, over Roger Stone case

The U.S. Attorney General William Barr has consented to testify before the House Judiciary Committee in March as Democrats express many concerns regarding his Department of Justice tenure, the advisory group stated on Wednesday.

Washington is staggering from the aftermath of the office’s bizarre decision to overrule career prosecutors. They wish to look for a lighter jail sentence for the political operative Roger Stone due to which the whole prosecution team resigned in objection.

Democrats on the House legal executive advisory committee wrote to Barr, On Wednesday, affirming that he had consented to testify at a hearing on 31 March. Executive Jerry Nadler wrote in the letter that Barr should expect to be questioned about recent steps about his administration of the justice department.

These incorporate, Nadler stated, “the choice to overrule your career prosecutors and essentially decrease the ordered sentence for Trump’s confidant Roger Stone, who has been indicted for lying under oath.” This later led to all four of the prosecutors withdrawing from the criminal lawsuit.

They additionally composed that they intend to question the Justice Department’s dealings with Trump legal advisor Rudy Giuliani, Rick Gates, Trump’s deputy campaign chairman, Trump’s former national security counsel Michael Flynn, as well as the expulsion of U.S. Lawyer Jessie Liu who supervised the indictments of Stone.

They recommended they intend to press Barr about different issues too; however, they stated that these three issues “are sufficient for our immediate attention.”

The Democrats wrote, “From the time President Trump took office, we have over and over cautioned you and your predecessors that the violation of our criminal justice system for political reasons is both dangerous for unsuitable to the House Judiciary Committee and our government.”

They also added, regarding concerns over Attorney General Barr, that in his tenure as the Attorney General, he engaged in a model of conduct in legal affairs relating to President Trump that raises questions for this Committee,” The Guardian reported.

However, On 20 February, the U.S. district judge Amy Berman Jackson convicted Stone, and she also declined to grant Stone’s solicitation for a new trial on Wednesday. See more news News of America Today .

Washington seeks special envoy for nuclear talks with Russia

Washington seeks special envoy for nuclear talks with Russia

The US administration wants to appoint a special envoy to negotiate with Moscow on arms control.
The main area of activity of such a negotiator should be a dialogue with the Russian Federation, but US President Donald Trump may insist that he also engage in involving China in this process. While the US administration has not selected a candidate for such a position, searches have been going on since the end of last year. Potential bidders included the former head of the US delegation to negotiate with the USSR on the Strategic Arms Reduction and Reduction Treaty (START-I), Richard Burt, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism Marshall Billingsley and Stephen Hadley, Assistant to the President US National Security Under George W. Bush. One source told the newspaper that a list of possible candidates was sent to US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo a few weeks ago.
The State Department and the National Security Council of the White House have not yet commented on this information.
The search for a special envoy for arms control negotiations may delay the decision on the fate of the Russian-American Treaty on Measures to Further Reduce and Limit Strategic Offensive Arms (START, or START III). “I was told that there was no work in this direction until they appointed a senior negotiator,” a former Pentagon official told the publication. The newspaper also notes that, in the opinion of many, including analysts and assistants to US lawmakers, Washington has no serious plans on how to interact with the Russian Federation or China in such negotiations, and the US administration “seems paralyzed” in this matter.
Last week, Assistant President of the United States for National Security Robert O’Brien said Washington would soon begin negotiations with Moscow on arms control and nuclear issues. Then he also noted that the US administration proceeds from the fact that the question of a possible extension or replacement of START is open.
Moscow calls on Washington not to delay the issue of the possibility of extending the treaty and characterizes it as the gold standard in the field of disarmament. Trump assured that the United States would like to conclude a new arms control agreement with Russia, China and, possibly, several other countries. To the additional question of whether the United States would like to extend the START, the head of the White House did not answer.
On Tuesday, O’Brien, speaking to the Washington Atlantic Council, admitted that China is currently not showing interest in joining arms control negotiations.
In January, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that Moscow did not intend to try to force Beijing to engage in an arms control dialogue with Washington. See more News of America Today .

Yale And Harvard Caught In Bribery Act

Yale And Harvard Caught In Bribery Act

Prestigious universities like Yale and Harvard might have failed to report the hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign gifts and contracts as required by law. This has been shared by the US Justice Department Of Education. According to the department, the Yale University in Connecticut received hefty amounts as foreign money. But it has failed to report at least $375 million of such gifts over the last four years.

According to Federal law, most colleges and universities need to report gifts from and contracts with foreign sources that are more than $250,000 twice a year. But both the top universities seemed to have failed to do so, raising a red flag. Speaking over the matter, US Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos has said, “This is about transparency. If colleges and universities are accepting foreign money and gifts, their students, donors, and taxpayers deserve to know how much and from whom.”

The worms are out of the can since last week when Yale received a request from the Education department for records of certain gifts and contracts from foreign sources under Section 117 of the Higher Education Act of 1965, said university spokeswoman Karen Peart.
But by doing so and not declaring the same, the university might land up favoring admission to those who can grease their palms than to those who genuinely deserved admission. It has been reported in the past, that countries like Qatar have tried to swindle their way into such prestigious universities by giving in large amounts of aid to professors and research scholars.

Post such gifts, students of choice have taken admission and worked as members of sleeper cells in America for years together. Their activity has gone unnoticed and their threat to national security never became apparent until the time they became active. See more News of America Today .

US and Taliban may sign peace agreement in February

US and Taliban may sign peace agreement in February

The United States may soon reach an agreement with the radical Taliban movement. This was announced on Tuesday by the Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security, Robert O’Brien, speaking at the Washington Atlantic Council.

“Great progress has been made, I think we can come close to an agreement” he said. “I’m interested in this, because hostages are still held in Afghanistan. I hope that the Taliban will find certain opportunities to join final negotiations. ” O’Brien recalled that U.S. President Donald Trump suspended negotiations in the fall of 2019 due to the death of American troops, but consultations resumed earlier this year.

“I think we will make significant progress,” said the presidential aide. “Good news may follow soon. It should be a reduction in violence, inter-Afghan negotiations to move forward. We must wait for a few days or weeks.”

Speaking about the prospects for the withdrawal of American troops, Trump’s assistant made it clear that this would not happen in the near future. According to him, the Taliban should guarantee a break in ties with al-Qaeda, the Islamic State and other terrorist groups.

“The president wants the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan. Afghanistan should no longer be a safe place for terrorists,” O’Brien said. “Our military and diplomats are working very seriously. But I don’t think the withdrawal is inevitable right now.”

Military sources told that the Trump administration may release a peace agreement to reduce the violence with the radical Taliban this week. According to them, the expected agreement will be a call for a ceasefire between the coalition forces led by the United States and the Taliban, which will become the basis for concluding a peace deal in the near future. The American authorities, the channel notes, are in favor of concluding the first part of the peace agreement with the Taliban in connection with Trump’s desire to withdraw troops from Afghanistan. Under this deal, Washington will be able to reduce its presence from 12-13 thousand to 8.6 thousand military personnel. Get all the News of America Today .

Bernie Sanders Wins Popular Vote

Bernie Sanders Wins Popular Vote

Bernie Sanders has won in the New Hampshire Primary election, creating a place for himself towards the race for the presidential elections. However, Vermont senator has been able to narrowly beat Pete Buttigieg with Amy Klobuchar coming in third position.
Unfortunately, Joe Biden and Senator Elizabeth Warren have been left behind in the race with having won only 10 percent of the votes in New Hampshire.

He is a 78-year-old self-described democratic socialist who truly believes in a united country. His win is looking strong enough for him to propel him into contests in Nevada and South Carolina, two states where he lost to Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential primary. That year, Mr. Sanders easily won in New Hampshire with more than 60% of the vote.

A tilt towards Sanders has come as the public has seen some reason in sane leadership and decided to shift their vote from Trump to more mature leadership.
Warren and Biden could not win the trust of the place they were campaigning in. And then made the biggest mistake to have played down the significance of this state, with the former vice president leaving early to attend a campaign party in South Carolina.
Exit polls released by television networks indicated that nearly half—48%—of New Hampshire voters surveyed made their decision within the past few days, another indication of a dynamic electorate.

Biden has not had a good fate in Iowa also. However, he is banking on some magic to happen in the March session of elections. He has been popular amongst black voters hoping for a strong swinging in South Carolina. To see all the latest News of America Today .

White House considers Putin’s proposal for meeting of UN Security Council

White House considers Putin’s proposal for meeting of UN Security Council

White House considers the proposal by Russian President Vladimir Putin to meet with leaders of countries that are permanent members of the UN Security Council (Russia, UK, China, USA, France)  This was announced on Sunday by US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan.

“I know that this proposal is under consideration at the White House,” he said.

Sullivan noted that US President Donald Trump welcomes the opportunity to speak with the Russian leader.  “Let’s see what his reaction will be,” the ambassador added.

On January 23, speaking at the World Holocaust Forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed convening a summit of the “five” permanent members of the UN Security Council in 2020.  Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that China and France have already supported this initiative.See more News of America Today

Sanders And Buttigieg Lock Horns

Sanders And Buttigieg Lock Horns

A political stalwart is in loggerheads with a roughly half the age military veteran and both are eyeing the Democratic nomination for the presidential post in the White House. This refers to none other than Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg.

Both rivals took two top spots at the Iowa caucuses where 37 years young
Buttigieg bagged 14 delegates while the 78 years of age, Sanders bagged 12 delegates. One is trailing the other by small margins. Political analysts rightly observe that the numbers are low in terms of the total a candidate would need to secure the nomination. But this little win in their kitty does provide critical early momentum.

New Hampshire is the next pit stop for the other 9 contenders who all have been troubled with the low turnout of voters at the Iowa caucus. New Hampshire is of the many states which will need to be won by one of these contenders to get a majority to be able to contest the presidential elections for 2020.

Buttigieg speaks of the future. If elected, he would be the first open gay president in the world. Also, while referring to Trump, he drew applause in New Hampshire when he said “we need a politics that works for us and brings us together.” He was definitely referring to Trump’s allegiance to lobbies of all kinds that have funded his campaigns and other agendas.

But Sanders have hit it back saying that “Because we bring forth an agenda that doesn’t ask for approval from Wall Street, or the drug companies, our agenda is the agenda that represents working families.” Sanders had referred to Buttigieg of taking millions off billionaires.
Joe Biden on the other hand will steer clear of the open fight between Sanders and Buttigieg. Biden, who had fewer events scheduled on Sunday than his rivals, conceded he was out-organized by Sanders and Buttigieg in Iowa. He reiterated his long-standing belief that he would perform better in states with more African Americans and other voters of color, including upcoming contests in Nevada and South Carolina. For more News of America Today

Trump Administration Used Cellphone Data To Track Immigrant Movement

Trump Administration Used Cellphone Data To Track Immigrant Movement

By Uttara Malhotra.

In a strange revelation, it has been discovered how the US government has been buying information from private vendors to keep track of movement of immigrants. The Trump administration has gone the road of buying data off a company that maps the movement of millions of mobile phones in America.

It has further been confirmed by the Wall Street Journal that came across relevant documents confirming this piece of information, that the Homeland Security has already made use of this information to catch hold of illegal immigrant movement on the Mexican border.

The information has also been used by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as well as U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Both agencies fall under the purview of DHS (U.S. Department of Homeland Security).

According to people familiar with the matter, all these agencies uses the information to look into the mobile phone activity that occurs in unusual places like in remote stretches of desert that straddle the Mexican border.

This is seemingly jarring, because this speaks for literally violation of private space of an individual and this kind of tactic for vigilance has never been used by the government before.

According to federal spending contracts, a division of DHS that creates experimental products had begun buying location data in 2017 itself. Its first data provider was Venntel Inc. of Herndon, Va., a small company that shares several executives and patents with Gravy Analytics, a major player in the mobile-advertising world. Venntel, in turn has purchased the information from private marketing companies that sell the location data of millions of cellphones to advertisers.

While all this is complete breach of trust and invasion of privacy to sell people’s mobile movement data, the government agencies have not shied away from accepting that they have indeed accessed this data. However, the use of the data was not disclosed. It has been confirmed by private companies providing such data that this data is pseudonymised. That means each cellphone is represented by an alphanumeric advertising identifier that is not linked to the name of the cellphone’s owner. So, while the advertising identifier is flagged up, the personal data of the individual is not seen. The private company that provides the data states that this data can be used to identify and track individuals based on their real-world behavior but will not identify the individual. US National Security Council employee Vindman fired from White House after testimony against Trump

US National Security Council employee Vindman fired from White House after testimony against Trump

By Julia Dzekish.

An employee of the National Security Council (NSC), Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, who testified against US President Donald Trump as part of the impeachment procedure, was fired.  This is stated in a statement released Friday by lawyer Vindman David Pressman.  Together with Vindman, his twin brother Eugene, who worked as a lieutenant colonel in the NSC as a lawyer, was fired.

“Today, Alexander Vindman was taken out of the White House, where he served his country and the president responsibly. He only spoke publicly [on the impeachment investigation] once and on the agenda of the US Congress,” Pressman said. “Every American understands why work  that person ended, why the country now has one less soldier serving in the White House. Vindman was asked to leave for telling the truth. ”  According to him, Vindman, speaking in Congress, did what was required by law.

“The truth cost Alexander Vindman work, career and private life. He did what every military man is obliged to do every day: follow the law, be faithful to the oath, serve the country, even if it involves danger and personal risk,”  lawyer. “For this, the most powerful person in the world decided to take revenge. Today Alexander Vindman left the White House, but we cannot accept the exile of the truth, duty and devotion that he represented.”

“If we allow the voices of truth to shut up and ignore the warnings, one day no one will warn us again,” the statement said.

According to US media, the lieutenant colonel was taken out of the White House, accompanied by guards.

US President Donald Trump earlier on Friday told reporters that the White House has not yet made such a staffing decision.  Vindman, seconded to the NSC from the Pentagon will return to the military.

Earlier in his testimony to Congress, Vindman said that the U.S. administration and Trump himself demanded that the Ukrainian side investigate the activities of Hunter Biden, the son of former U.S. vice president Joseph Biden, in exchange for a meeting between Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and the American leader in the White House.  An NSC officer told lawmakers that after the decision to speak at the impeachment hearing, he was no longer invited to attend some meetings in the White House. Justice Department Lifts Charges Off Major Automakers In California

Justice Department Lifts Charges Off Major Automakers In California

By Uttara Malhotra.

The United States Justice Department has let off major auto car makers and lifted charges they had earlier levied on them.  Ford Motor Co., Honda Motor Co., BMW, and Volkswagen had been accused of indulging in conduct that violated U.S. antitrust law.

The whole incident goes back to July 2019, when the automakers had entered an agreement with the California Air Resources Board on fuel efficiency standards. This state-based framework is known to be at odds with the Trump administration’s regulatory approach.

The resentment amongst the Californian leaders comes with Trump administration having moved to rescind Obama-era rules that were a good attempt to lower emissions. However, Californian leaders have been in logger heads with the Trump administration on this as well as other issues like health care, immigration and transportation.

The Trump administration has been going out of its way to undo all that had been done for the larger and long term good of the American population. Most of his decisions have favored one or the other lobby.

Environmental rules, especially climate policy are one such sensitive issue that is now on every country’s long term agenda. This has indeed been a burning issue at the center of the conflict between California and the White House.

In July 2019, the four companies had announced a deal to support standards set by the California Air Resources Board. For them, they felt, it was the best way to ensure the dispute didn’t lead to two sets of emissions standards in the U.S. This was not liked by the Justice Department, which then started questioning the companies of their intent and allegiance with the Californian leadership at large. Subpoenas were issued and the automakers one-by-one had responded to them, after which the air was cleared and the Justice Department has thus cleared them off any unlawful conduct. The issue still remains unresolved. If Trump comes back into power, he will ensure the emission rates are changed to suit the fossil fuel lobby to which he has promised allegiance and who maybe pumping a lot of money into his election campaign.
