women can travel for abortion biden signs executive order
United States President Joe Biden has signed an executive order on Wednesday that will ensure women seeking abortion can travel across states for the procedure. This is a big win for abortion rights of American women after recent decision by US Supreme Court that overturned Roe Vs Wade eliminated constitutional rights of women to seek the abortion.
Under the new executive order signed by President Biden is pro-abortion and will help women to travel outside the state to receive the procedure, “ensures health care providers comply with federal law so women aren’t delayed in getting care and advances research and data collection to evaluate the impact that this reproductive health crisis is having on maternal health and other health conditions and outcomes.”
“Emergency medical care being denied to women experiencing miscarriages, doctors uncertain about what they can do to provide for their patients, pharmacists unsure whether they can fill prescriptions that they’ve always filled before, a tragic case of rape survivors, including a 10-year-old girl forced to travel to another state for care,” Biden said before signing the order.
The order comes after historical win by Kansas voters who chose to vote against ballot that would have allowed state’s legislature to impose new restriction on abortion. The win was celebrated by President Biden from White House. “In a decisive victory, voters made it clear that politicians should not interfere with the fundamental rights of women. And the voters of Kansas sent a powerful signal that this fall the American people will vote to preserve and protect the right and refuse to let them be ripped away by politicians. And my administration has their back.”
The executive order directs the Department of Health and Human Services to consider allowing Medicaid funds to be redirected for assisting people who have to travel across states to get abortions. The order also directs HHS to ensure that “health care providers comply with federal anti-discrimination laws so women receive medically necessary care without delay”, as noted by NBC News.
