Who is Anthony Joshua? What Happened to Him?

Anthony Joshua is a British boxing super-star and two time world champion in heavy weight boxing, and who also won Olympic gold in boxing prior to turning professional. He is now trending following a car accident that took the lives of two of his close friends as well as members of his training team in Nigeria.

Who is Anthony Joshua?

One of the largest personalities of the contemporary heavyweight division is Joshua (or AJ) who is a powerful athlete with an athletic style and popularity on a stadium scale in the UK. He is a two-time heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medalist that made him become a worldwide representative of boxing.​

He subsequently made a comeback to the limelight in December 2025, when he punched Jake Paul out in the sixth round in another Netflix-broadcast event in Miami. The victory advanced his pro career to 29-4 and was regarded as a career refresh following a loss at the hands of Daniel Dubois in September 2024.​

What happened to him?

Towards the end of December 2025, Joshua was in a terrible car crash in Nigeria where two of his close friends and teammates, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, died in the accident. It was reported that Joshua had minor injuries and was admitted to a hospital but was stable and nothing went wrong with his physical condition.​Joshua finally posted publicly on the crash, when tributes and memorial arrangements of the victims garnered much publicity. The tragedy has also created doubts on his future in boxing and there have been constant speculations on whether he will be back in the ring in 2026.​
