What’s Open and Closed on MLK Day 2026 in the US

The US federal holiday, the Martin Luther King Jr Day, will be observed on January 19, 2026, and will have a number of local and financial services to have adaptations that will affect the day-to-day activities of millions of people across the nation.

Closures and Services on MLK Day

The federal offices, banks, and post offices are closed on MLK Day and there is no mail delivery of USPS. The bond market and stock market also halt operations of the day. A number of state-run institutions, libraries, and government schools close down on the US federal holiday.

Nevertheless, the vast majority of retail shops, eateries, supermarkets, and other basic services are operational, with the schedule possibly depending on the place. Freight express like FedEx could run on restricted schedules.

Banks, mailing and investing activities across the country are encouraged to be planned ahead because of nationwide closures on MLK Day.
