San Antonio Spurs Victor Wembanyama played Minnesota Timberwolves Anthony Edwards in a high-stakes NBA showdown on January 17, 2026, and prevailed 126-123 at Frost Bank Center. Edwards scored a career high 55 points, (26 in the fourth quarter) making 19-of-33 field and 9-of-16 three-point shots. The victory was provided by Joan Beringer being blocked by Wembanyama and having no chance to take a shot at the goal. Edwards attempted a half-court heave at the buzzer, but missed one of two free throws towards the end. Spurs also rose to 29-13, which strengthened its position in the Western Conference.
