According to Tran Ngoc Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association (VOAA), organic farming has increased significantly in the nation following three years of the organic agriculture plan’s implementation.
The yearly export value of organic farm products is 335 million USD, and they are available in more than 180 nations and territories. He said that the majority of those products are imported from Vietnam into Europe.
The VOAA has organised a trip for 10 firms to attend BIOFACH, the world’s largest trade expo for organic food, in Nürnberg, Germany, from February 14 to 17. The goal is to introduce Vietnamese organic products to more European consumers.
According to Thanh, this is the sixth time in a row that the VOAA has helped Vietnamese businesses participate in this event, giving them the ability to investigate commercial potential, look for partners, and access international organic food markets.
Nguyen Van Chi, Deputy Chief of the Hanoi Coordinating Office for the new-style rural area building programme, joined the businesses at BIOFACH and stated that in 2022, consumers in Germany and the rest of Europe were forced to cut back on purchasing more expensive organic products due to inflation, rising energy prices, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
He continued, “But this was only a short-term circumstance, and the consumption of organic products is still a strong trend throughout the world.”
The German government is very interested in organic farming, according to Lai Ngoc Thanh, Director of the HANUTI JSC, which has its headquarters in the Dong Anh district of Hanoi. She highlighted organic agricultural products from Vietnam, especially Hanoi, to join the European market.
Do Viet Ha, a representative of the Vietnamese Trade Office in Germany, agreed, stating that the use of organic products is a growing trend in both this nation and Europe.
She noted that opportunities for organic farm products from Vietnam are growing as a result of this trend and the benefits of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), and she advised businesses to take full advantage of these opportunities, capitalise on the consumer trend, and understand the rules and specifications for food safety and other import markets.
