Ukraine: One dead and 23 injured in a missile strike on Mykolaiv

One person was killed and 23 people were injured in a Russian missile strike in Mykolaiv, a city near the Black Sea in southern Ukraine, in the early hours of Thursday.

Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, said on Telegram, “At night, Russia bombarded Mykolaiv with four Kalibr missiles launched from the Black Sea. For now, we know about one dead and 23 wounded, including a child.”

Zelenskyy also posted a video, which showed damaged buildings and smashed windows. The missiles hit apartment buildings, causing damage to buildings and injuring people.

Vitaliy Kim, the Governor of Mykolaiv Oblast or Mykolayivshchyna, revealed that they were clearing the rubble after the incident.

Meanwhile, Russian forces have pounded Bakhmut, a city in eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian forces in Bakhmut are worried about losing support.

The general staff of Ukraine’s armed forces said that at least a dozen localities came under Russian fire in the recent attack. Serhiy Cherevatiy, a spokesman for Ukraine’s eastern group of forces, said that Russian forces had attacked 324 times using rocket launchers in the last 24 hours.

On Wednesday, Zelenskyy called Chinese President Xi Jinping to talk about the Russia-Ukraine war. It was the first contact between the Ukrainian and Chinese Presidents since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine 14 months ago.

Reportedly, the Chinese President said that China would send representatives to Ukraine for talks about a “political settlement” between Russian and Ukrainian forces.

According to a Chinese government readout of the call, “On the Ukraine crisis, China always stands on the side of peace. Its core stance is to facilitate talks for peace. Dialogue and negotiation are the only viable way forward.”

In February this year, China released a peace proposal to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. China urged the Russian and Ukrainian forces for negotiations and a cease-fire.
