Watch Live: UAE’s MBZ-SAT and HCT-SAT 1 Space Launch, From California

The UAE is all set to launch most advanced Earth-imaging satellite MBZ-SAT on January 14, at 10:49 PM UAE time. This launch of MBZ-SAT will take place from California, USA. Along with it, a smaller satellite, HCT-SAT 1, will also be launched. This is showing the focus of UAE in using high-tech solutions and building future space talent.

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) is leading this mission, and you can watch it live from 9:30 PM UAE time at live.mbrsc.ae. This launch highlights the UAE’s commitment to growing its space program and pushing for innovation.

What is MBZ-SAT?

MBZ-SAT is named after UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It’s the UAE’s most advanced satellite for taking pictures of Earth. It’s big—700 kilograms—and can take ten times more pictures than the UAE’s current satellites.

A team of UAE engineers built MBZ-SAT, and they tested it in South Korea to ensure it’s ready for space. The final checks were done at SpaceX’s facility in the USA. This satellite shows how the UAE is becoming a leader in satellite technology.

HCT-SAT 1: Made by UAE Students

HCT-SAT 1 is a smaller satellite, but it’s a big deal. It was built by UAE students as part of a project to train the next generation of space experts. Over 50 students from across the UAE worked on it, learning valuable skills for the future.

Salem Humaid Al Marri, the head of MBRSC, said this mission combines expertise and training. “One satellite shows years of experience, and the other focuses on building the future,” he explained.

Dealing with Delays

The launch was originally planned for October 2024 but was delayed because of technical issues with the Falcon 9 rocket. Thanks to SpaceX’s rideshare program, the launch was rescheduled. This program makes space launches more affordable and flexible.

Space Program is Growing by UAE:

UAE is working on advancing technology from a longer time, as per the records and fresh data UAE has 10 satellites in space. These satellites are taking pictures of Earth, helping with communication, and doing research. There are also 8 more satellites will be developed by the nation.

The launch of MBZ-SAT will make the space program of UAE even stronger. The launch is a proud moment for the country.

By training students and advancing technology, the country is creating a sustainable and innovative space program.

Salem Al Marri said, “This mission is about more than just satellites. It’s about inspiring and preparing the next generation”.

With MBZ-SAT and HCT-SAT 1 the UAE continues to lead in space, these are showing  the commitment of UAE.
