Trump Breaks Silence on Venezuela Operation in First Post-Action Interview

Former U.S. President has granted his first interview with The New York Times in the light of a recent U.S. operation involving Venezuela, where Trump has made some rare comments about attempts to capture Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Trump, in the interview, referred to the operation as being brilliant and indicated that he was well aware of the strategy and its implementation.

As The New York Times questioned Trump about whether the operation was formally approved by the U.S. Congress, Trump avoided giving an answer. Rather, he has said that additional information would be released at 11, indicating that there would be an announcement or briefing in the future that would shed light on the legal and political structure of the move.

Just after the interview, Trump was also interviewed by Fox News through a telephone call, in which he once again talked about the recent American intervention in Venezuela. Although the details of the operation performed by the United Arab Emirates were not verified publicly during the call, Trump continued to speak with a lot of confidence and stressed what he describes as the efficiency of the United Arab Emirates’ activity in the region.

The remarks have sparked another debate on American foreign intervention, congressional control, and the long-held position of Washington in the leadership of Venezuela. According to the analysts, the comments of Trump might have great political and diplomatic consequences, especially when it is still unclear whether the authorization, goals, and the overall effect of the relations between the United States and Venezuela will be achieved.
