TGIS Actor Red Sternberg Dies Suddenly at 50, Just Days Before His Birthday

Filipino actor Red Sternberg, who starred in the 1990s youth series TGIS as Kiko, sadly died on May 27, 2025. He would have turned 51 the day after he died, but he was only 50. Official confirmation came from Sandy Sternberg on Facebook, who shared her agony over the loss of her husband during the month meant for family joy. Afterward, Director Mark Reyes and many TGIS actors dedicated posts to Red, remembering him as one of the original family of the show.

A Sudden Farewell to a Beloved 90s Star

Born Rodwick Sternberg on May 30, 1974 and known as Red Sternberg by viewers, he added humor and cheer to Filipinos with his role as Kiko in the weekly show called TGIS (Thank God It’s Sabado). People close to Snee were left in shock when he passed away that morning on May 27. In a deeply emotional message, Sandy Sternberg told of the pain of getting birthday well-wishes when they were still mourning the loss of their grandson.

Actors Bobby Andrews, Angelu de Leon, Rica Peralejo and director Mark Reyes from TGIS all expressed regret at losing Red. On Facebook, Reyes shared the sad news and said they ask for privacy during this hard time for Red’s family.

Remembering Red Sternberg’s Legacy

There is still a strong impact of Red in Philippine TV today. When TGIS ran in the 1990s, he helped develop teen-focused TV and worked as a double act with Rica Peralejo. His character Kiko made him loved by viewers because of his lively and loving spirit. Although he stepped back from work in the spotlight, Sternberg’s influence can still be clearly felt by people who watched as kids.
