Tennessee Confirms Three Additional Measles Cases, Bringing State Total to Four

TDH reports three new measles cases in Middle Tennessee which brings the total number of cases in 2025 to four at present as disease trackers continue their investigation.

The latest measles patients in Tennessee show that one case spread from the first individual who caught measles on March 21, 2025. The TDH team monitors these individuals at home to stop the spread of measles while tracing down all those who might have been exposed to the virus.

Additional confirmed cases from twenty states have entered the community during a spreading measles outbreak that affects more than 480 people who have died from two deaths.

According to TDH representatives measles acts as a dangerous and highly infectious illness. Measles spreads rapidly from one person to others in the air during regular breathing.

The department urges residents to be vigilant for symptoms of measles, which typically include:

  • A distinctive red, spotty rash that begins on the face before spreading across the body
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • General malaise
  • Cough
  • Red, watery eyes
  • Congestion

Medical staff must think about measles as a possible cause when examining patients with these symptoms and they need to notify TDH right away at 615-741-7247.
