206 Prisoners Returned in Russia-Ukraine Exchange, Again Thanks to Mediation by Gulf Nation-UAE!

A new update is coming from the prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia.  Both countries conducted eight successful rounds of prisoner exchange. Russia and Ukraine exchanged 206 prisoners on Saturday, 103 per country. The notable point in this exchange is the mediation done by the UAE. Total number of captives exchanged through Emirati diplomacy now stands at 1,994.

After the exchange, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on the Telegram messaging app and X that the 82 soldiers and privates and 21 officers were released. He said, “Our people are home.”

The Defence Ministry of Russia also said that 103 Russian soldiers exchanged had been in the border Kursk region.

Emirati state news agency WAM confirmed that the exchange was mediated by the UAE. This was the 8th such mediation since 2024. UAE has once again showcased the nation’s growing influence in global peacekeeping and humanitarian efforts.

Highlighting the Humanitarian Role of the UAE

At the heart of the mediation efforts by the UAE is a deep-rooted commitment to humanitarian principles. The prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia is not just a diplomatic achievement but a life-changing event for the individuals involved and their families. This release of prisoners highlights the critical importance of compassion, cooperation, and dialogue in resolving disputes.

From February 2022 Russia and Ukraine have frequently exchanged prisoners. UAE has been mediating multiple exchanges between both of the nations. Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine’s human rights ombudsman revealed that Kyiv has successfully secured the return of 3,672 Ukrainians through 57 prisoner exchanges to date. This is a testament to the dedication of Ukraine to bringing its citizen’s home.

In the latest exchange, the UAE Foreign Ministry played a pivotal role in mediating between the two nations. The ministry of UAE also expressed its gratitude to both Ukraine and Russia for their cooperation and responsiveness.

UAE is earning a reputation as a reliable mediator

The history of UAE in establishing and promoting peace, in mediation extends beyond Ukraine. UAE was significantly involvement in Yemen, Sudan, and Syria, where its diplomatic efforts have contributed to reducing hostilities and creating opportunities for peace. These highlight that the UAE is a trusted mediator in conflicts that often seem intractable.

UAE is not alone here, the country is collaborating with countries like the United States, France, and Russia, as well as organizations such as the United Nations, the UAE has demonstrated the power of multilateral diplomacy. The success of the prisoner exchange illustrates how effective international cooperation can be in addressing the humanitarian crises that arise from war.
