North Korea Warns of Nuclear Response to US Military Deployments in South Korea

In a recent development, North Korea has warned that the stationing of American aircraft carriers, bombers, or missile submarines in South Korea may be sufficient to justify the use of nuclear weapons. Kang Sun Nam, North Korea’s defence minister, commented, which increased regional tensions. 

The defence minister of North Korea commented at a time when North Korea and the US have been stepping up military shows, escalating the stakes in their standoff. South Korea’s engagement and the most recent Nuclear Consultative Group (NCG) meeting between the United States and South Korea have worsened the situation. The USS Kentucky, a nuclear-armed ballistic missile submarine of the Ohio class, was deployed after it landed at the South Korean port of Busan, according to a statement from North Korea. The statement claims that such acts can be considered to meet the requirements for using nuclear weapons outlined in North Korea’s nuclear law.
