Mpox Isn’t a New COVID-19, Confirms WHO Official

During a press briefing the European Director of WHO Hans Kluge said “We can and must tackle mpox together” said.

Official from the World Health Organization said that mpox is different from COVID-19 as we already know how to manage its spread. He also clarified that whether it is a new or old strain no need to panic. It is not COVID.

Hans Kluge emphasized the importance of working together to control and eliminate mpox globally. He pointed out that our response now and in the future will be a key test for both Europe and the world. Mpox is a viral infection that causes pus-filled sores and flu-like symptoms. While it’s usually mild, it can sometimes be fatal.

WHO also shared a detailed post on its X platform about the Mpox symptoms:

Take extra care and precautions in a time when this spreadable virus is impacting human beings.

The serious concern is about Clade 1b strains of MPOX, This strain has raised global concern due to its easy and rapid spread through close contact with a person. A recent case in Sweden is linked to the epidemic spreading in Africa. Kluge noted that focusing on this new strain allows Europe to also focus on less serious clade 2 strains, improving public health guidance and surveillance. About 100 new cases of clade 2 strains are being reported every month in Europe.

On its official X portal, WHO shares prevention measures to be safe in the season when MPOX is spreading rapidly:
