When we were students, we read what a lunar eclipse is. Do you remember what a total lunar eclipse is? How it happens? A total lunar eclipse happens when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, blocking sunlight from reaching the Moon. Instead of direct sunlight, the shadow of Earth covers the Moon giving it a red glow. This is why it is often called a “Blood Moon.”
The last total lunar eclipse was on November 8, 2022. It was special because it was the first total lunar eclipse on a U.S. Election Day in history. Not only the Americans but people from the corners of the world from the continents of Asia, Australia, and the Pacific also saw it.
The next total lunar eclipse will happen on March 13-14, 2025. We are here with a simple timeline for those in the United States (EST time zone):
| Event | Time (EST) |
| Eclipse Begins | 11:57 PM (March 13) |
| Total Eclipse Starts | 2:30 AM (March 14) |
| Eclipse Ends | 6:00 AM (March 14) |
According to the experts people in North America, South America, and parts of Europe and Africa will be able to see this lunar eclipse.
If you miss this one, don’t worry! The next total lunar eclipse visible in the U.S. will be in March 2026.
For Election Day lunar eclipses, you’ll have to wait a long time—the next one will be on November 8, 2394, 372 years from now! Keep an eye on the sky and don’t miss this beautiful celestial event!
