Cricket is coming back to the Olympics after 128 years and both the Men’s and Women’s T20 matches now have slots and fixtures. The International Olympic Committee has revealed that six teams each in Men’s and Women’s category, competing for Gold, silver and Bronze medals.
The medal matches will be happening on 20 and 29 July at the Fairgrounds in Pomona, which is located 50 kilometres from Los Angeles. Named Fairplex, the venue will be serving for all the games, has been hosting the LA County fair in the past and serving as location for concerts and live events.
The LA Olympics Cricket matches schedule revealed that most matches will be double headers with the games scheduled at 9:00 AM (9:30 PM IST) and 6:30 PM (7:00 AM IST). The organisers have also announced that there will be no games held from 14 July to 21 July during the Olympics.
It is also revealed that the Olympics will have 80 athletes per gender (i.e) teams can feature 15 member squads. After the unofficial test match that featured in the Olympics between Great Britain and France in Paris Olympics 1900, now the game is inducted as an Olympic sport.
Cricket also joins other new Olympic sports such as Squash, Baseball/Softball, Flag Football and Lacrosse (Sixes). Squash is also a growing sport in India and will have its events at the Universal City Squash Centre in LA from 15 July and medal matches to be held on 23 and 24 July.
