Know everything about spring equinox 2023

The first day of spring in 2023 is quickly coming, which means it’s almost time to put away the winter gloves and bring out the shorts.

Although there have been a few glimpses of spring over the past few months and cold weather is predicted for this weekend in New Jersey, the spring equinox on March 20 will mark the beginning of the new season.

The official start of spring in 2023 is Monday at 5:24 p.m. Eastern time, when the sun passes directly over the equator, the line that runs between the North and South Poles, delivering nearly equal amounts of sunshine and darkness to every part of the world.

Although some people refer to that time as the vernal equinox or the March equinox, it is generally known as the spring equinox.

Why is it called the spring equinox?

The Roman terms “Equi” and “nox,” which stand for “night” and “equal,” respectively, were combined to generate the English word “equinox.”

The Farmers’ Almanac, a competitor of the Old Farmer’s Almanac, claims that the word “vernal,” which translates to “new” and “fresh,” was used to produce the other name for this annual occurrence, the vernal equinox.

Although the spring equinox doesn’t always fall on the same day, it always does so in the northern hemisphere on one of these three dates: March 19, March 20, or March 21.

The official start of spring is often on March 20. The spring equinox, however, fell on March 19 in 2020. The date changed back to March 20 in 2021, and it repeated that day in 2022 and 2023.

According to timeanddate.com, the next time the spring equinox falls on March 19 will be in 2024. Moreover, it won’t arrive on March 21 for 78 years, or until the year 2101. Remember that “a year is not an even number of days and neither are the seasons” if you’re wondering why spring arrives at various times. So, it is impossible to divide 365 days into four equal quarters and have the same number of days in each season.
