Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi died in a helicopter crash last night, officials confirmed. Iran’s Foreign Minister also lost his life in this shocking accident!
A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his foreign minister crashed on Sunday as it traversed mountainous terrain in heavy fog, Iranian officials confirmed. Rescuers are currently struggling to reach the site of the incident.
The crash occurred while President Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian were returning from a visit to the border with Azerbaijan in Iran’s northwest. “The lives of Raisi and the Foreign Minister are at risk following the helicopter crash,” an official stated. State TV later reported that the helicopter had been located, and at least one passenger and one crew member had made contact with rescuers.
According to the sources this crash happened due to extreme bad weather, and this bad weather has also complicated the ongoing rescue efforts.
A local news channel reported- “It’s dark and it has started raining, but the search continues. Rescue teams have reached the area, but the rain has created mud, making the search difficult.”
The White House announced that U.S. President Joe Biden had been briefed on the helicopter crash of Iranian President, and the European Union offered emergency satellite mapping technology to aid the search in Iran.
This helicopter accident has happened at a time when tension with Israel is at its peak.
Iran is facing international pressure over Tehran’s controversial nuclear program and its deepening military ties with Russia amid the war in Ukraine. Since Iran’s ally Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, situation in middle east was not stable.
President Raisi was 63 years old. He was elected in 2021 as president of Iran and since then he has overseen a tightening of morality laws, a severe crackdown on anti-government protests, and pushed hard in nuclear negotiations with world powers. Government of Raisi faced many pressure and sensations/ difficulties exacerbated by West.
