On Thursday, five men left on the street in Matamoros with their hands tied. They held a letter of apology, describing the incident. The apology letter was signed by a group, claiming to represent a faction of the Gulf Cartel. The apology letter said that the five were responsible for the attack on the Americans. The Gulf Cartel apologised for the incident in a lengthy statement. The group wrote in a letter, “We have decided to turn over those who were directly involved and responsible in the incident, who at all times acted under their own decision-making and lack of discipline.”

According to Tamaulipas’s attorney general’s office, the five men had been arrested on Friday on suspicion of taking part in the kidnapping and killings of the Americans.

Law enforcement officials in Mexico are investigating the incident.

Matamoros is one of the most dangerous places in Mexico. Drug cartels control large regions of this place. According to the Mexican Council for the Medical Tourism Industry, Americans usually travel to Mexico for low-cost medical services.

Recently, the United States (US) Department of State warned against travel to Tamaulipas due to the recent rise in crime and kidnapping cases.
