India observes National Technology Day every year on May 11 to commemorate the string of significant achievements of its scientists and technocrats and their contributions towards nation-building. The day has a rich history and highlights the country’s pursuit of technological advancements as well as its commitment to innovation.

Historical Significance

National Technology Day revisits India’s historic achievements in the field of science and technology.

The country’s first nuclear tests on May 11, 1998, under Pokhran-II, codenamed Operation Shakti, brought it international recognition as a nuclear power and highlighted its magnificent scientific capabilities. The tests showcased India’s power to create and deploy nuclear weapons.

Celebration

National Technology Day serves as a reminder of Indians’ remarkable contributions in a number of different fields, including defense technology, space exploration, agriculture, healthcare, and communication. The day also tries to inspire young minds to pursue careers in STEM fields.

As the day is of great importance to India, it is also celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country.

Dozens of different seminars, conferences, exhibitions, and events are organised to deliver a better idea of India’s technological advancements, while providing a better opportunity for researchers and innovators to showcase their talent and collaborate on future projects.

The celebrations also emphasise the Indian government’s commitment to supporting research and development in the country.
