Eugenio Suarez Trade: Mariners Acquire Star Third Baseman from Diamondbacks

The Seattle Mariners are already making a splash before the upcoming trade deadline, and it involves the acquisition of third baseman Eugenio Suarez by the club from the Arizona Diamondbacks. In this Eugenio Suarez trade, one of the best power hitters in baseball plays a repeat role in Seattle, where Suarez played the previous two seasons of 2022 and 2023.

The Mariners are dealing three of their best players to Arizona as part of the Suarez deal, including first baseman Tyler Locklear and pitchers Juan Burgos and Hunter Cranton. The purchase has almost been completed with a medical check-up.

Eugenio Suarez Trade Impact on Mariners Playoff Push

The 34-year-old Suarez has been performing exceptionally in closing out the season with 36 homers, making him the fifth home run scorer in the entire Major League Baseball. He also tops the National League in RBIs with 87 and will also provide a slugging percentage of 576 to the Seattle hitters.

This was much much-needed offensive push on the part of the Mariners. They are even with the Texas Rangers at 57-52, and own the currently held 52-56 wild-card playoff position. The Eugenio Suarez trade provides them with a reliable cleanup hitter who would generate runs at the necessary opportune time.

That is why the lineup of Seattle looks much more dangerous now in the presence of Suarez, along with Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez, and Randy Arozarena. This potent offensive battery, as well as their potent pitching staff with Logan Gilbert and Luis Castillo, makes the Mariners a formidable playoff contender.

What the Diamondbacks Get in Return

In the trading of Eugenio Suarez, the Arizona people get three highly promising prospects. A 24-year-old, Tyler Locklear, is prepared to move to the big leagues and has been blasting the ball in the Triple-A with 19 home runs and 82 RBIs this season. His .894 career minor league OPS indicates he is a guy who is capable of hitting throughout his career.

Juan Burgos, 25, is a relief pitcher and set his team ablaze with a 0.87 ERA in the minors this year. He has already played four games with Seattle, and he has proved that he is almost in a position to play in the major league.

Hunter Cranton is a 24-year-old quarterback taken by Seattle in the third round last year. His high potential of the possibility of going through his system fast, due to his 100-mph fastball, notwithstanding his lame professional experience.

Diamondbacks have a trade history with Suarez, one in which they gave up on their playoff ambitions, succumbing to injuries such as Tommy John surgery by star pitcher Corbin Burnes. Their record is 51-58, and they are not interested in winning this season because they are busy on the future.

The trade between Eugenio Suarez and the two teams is beneficial in reaching their objectives. Seattle acquires the power bat they needed to make their playoff push, and Arizona gains some young talent to rebuild around their core of Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte. Such a move has the possibility of turning out to be the game-breaker and sending the Mariners into October Ball.
