Erdogan Declares Himself and Putin as the Last Experienced Leaders on the World Stage

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has claimed that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin are the only experienced world leaders.

Erdogan said, “There are only two leaders left with significant experience—Vladimir Putin and I. This isn’t just about me, but I’ve been in office for 22 years nearly as long as Mr. Putin. Others have moved on. Maintaining dialogue is vital, especially in politics”.

He also commented on leadership changes in Germany pointing to the departure of former Chancellor Angela Merkel as an end to a political era. Erdogan admired Merkel’s predecessor, Gerhard Schroder calling him a respectful and effective leader.

Erdogan said, “During Ramadan he refrained from drinking beer at our table, showing great respect. We still maintain a good relationship, and he visits Turkey from time to time”.

The remark by the Turkish leaders shows the long-term political influence in the region.
