Elon Musk walks out of Trump Administration after just 5 months: Here are the possible reasons

Billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk bids adieu to the White House as he walks away from Trump’s administration. Although the exact reason for his step down is unknown the timing of him criticising the president’s marquee tax bill is hard to dismiss.

Musk was seen with Trump as part of his close radar of associates after his second time in the presidential seat. Inducted to lend a helping hand in the tumultuous phase to shrink the size of the US government that axed thousands of federal jobs.

In a X post, Musk thanked the US President for his tenure as a ‘Special Government Employee’ by which he means as the unofficial head of DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) and can work for 130 days each year as a federal employee. His exact term for the role as shared in the post. “I would like to thank President

@realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending.”

He also confirmed that this won’t mean any setback regarding DOGE, “The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.” A source in the know with BBC heard that, ‘The White House began “offboarding” Musk as a special government employee on Wednesday night’.

Elon Musk’s comment on the recent masquee tax bill could have triggered the unexpected exit as a source familiar with the matter reported to Reuters said that a few senior White House officials including Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller were not upset about the comment and the White House was forced to call the Republican senators to renew Trump’s support for the package.

After Trump’s second presidential period, Musk was seen in and around the president’s visits, meetings at the oval office with Musk showcasing unapologetic display of brash comments and hyper reactions like his show in February at the Conservative Political Action Conference, taking out a bright red chainsaw, “This is the chainsaw for bureaucracy,” he said with loud cheers from the crowd.

Musk initially pledged to cut $2 Trillion from the federal government budget, which he then halved and once again reduced to $150 Billion. DOGE currently estimates to have cut down $175 Billion so far which is unverified data.

While he deviated from Trump’s idea of the bill, which the president described as “big, beautiful bill”, Musk said, “”I think a bill can be big or it could be beautiful. But I don’t know if it could be both.”
While on his workfront, Musk’s Tesla sales dropped 13% in three months, the largest sales drop in the company’s history. The tech giant’s shares also fell 45% which led Musk to tell his investors on an earnings call that he would spend more time for Tesla and less for DOGE, reports BBC.
