Elevator and escalator expert, consultant, an expert witness for litigation involving elevator / escalator failures and accidents. With over 40 years of experience Mr Cotton also owns his elevator company in San Francisco district.

Mr Robert P Cotton is a revered figure in his field and has 1000 inspections under his belt nationally. His consulting mainly focuses on injuries and damages from faulty equipment, floods or fires.

He also provides forensic focus on electrical or mechanical failures. His failure analysis covers incidents like accidents, inspection, maintenance, specification drafting and enforcement and code issues.

The elevator expert advocates to building owners about technology advancements and renovating equipment. Being costly is a downside but it adds to the longevity of the equipment and avoids future equipment failures.

If the proper safety instructions are evenly followed, routine inspections and maintenance is done, elevators and escalators are not things that need to be feared. These are built for our convenience and should be used properly maintaining the rules and regulations.

His journey started in 1995 when renovating elevators in a San Francisco hotel, the main switch in the elevator machine room by the roof of the building had a short circuit and caused an arc flash that burned Mr Cotton. He had to sustain 3rd degree burns on 43 percent of his body at the time, above his waist and had to go through skin grafting. 

After that he started volunteering as a Champ Camp counsellor and did that for 17 long years. Apart from this, he is an avid cyclist, snowboarder and rock climber.
