While fans are still yet to know the finalists for the tournament, they can only hope for Gukesh vs Carlsen finishing the tournament. Thursday revealed the results of Round 9 and the chances of witnessing the pair in full concentration, aiming for the title are high.

Round 10 of the tournament will decide the final top two GMs as India’s Gukesh will be taking America’s Fabiano Caruana and while Magnus Carlsen will be playing India’s Arjun Erigaisi. Gukesh and Carlsen will be looking to gain full points to retain the top spots while Hikaru Nakumara is also in the chase, depending on the rest of the wins and loses.
Gukesh beat China’s Wei Yi who missed the bishop f7, which was easily capitalised and pounced further by the Indian. Carlsen on the other hand defeated Caruana, also on the track, with a blunder on the 48th move, a dull day for the American but gave momentum for the five time World Champion to proceed the charts.
Koneru Humpy, the two times World rapid champion blatantly lost to Lei Tingjie of China, almost slipping away from the title. Humpy will be facing Ju Wenjun at the final round while Ukrainian Anna Muzychuk, the current no.1 in the leaderboard with two whole points ahead of Humpy.
The winning Grandmaster will be claiming the title along with a cash prize of USD 69,000. Magnus Carlsen is the reigning champion and eyeing for his 7th in Norway and Ju Wenjun becoming the first ever Norway Women Champion.
