D Gukesh vs Magnus Carlsen in Norway Chess Final? Predictions and Prize Money Details

The highlight of the Norway Chess Tournament is the tense Round 6 game between the reigning World Champion Gukesh and the reigning Norway champion Carlsen. A time urgency, blunders as the time ticks and a dramatic outburst from the otherwise composed Magnus Carlsen is definitely one for the books.

While fans are still yet to know the finalists for the tournament, they can only hope for Gukesh vs Carlsen finishing the tournament. Thursday revealed the results of Round 9 and the chances of witnessing the pair in full concentration, aiming for the title are high.

Gukesh still got one round to reach the final and is currently at 2nd position with 14.5 points while Carlsen who defeated Caruana, earning full points, has half a point higher in the six-player double round-robin tournament on Thursday.

The Decider

Round 10 of the tournament will decide the final top two GMs as India’s Gukesh will be taking America’s Fabiano Caruana and while Magnus Carlsen will be playing India’s Arjun Erigaisi. Gukesh and Carlsen will be looking to gain full points to retain the top spots while Hikaru Nakumara is also in the chase, depending on the rest of the wins and loses.

Gukesh beat China’s Wei Yi who missed the bishop f7, which was easily capitalised and pounced further by the Indian. Carlsen on the other hand defeated Caruana, also on the track, with a blunder on the 48th move, a dull day for the American but gave momentum for the five time World Champion to proceed the charts.

Koneru Humpy, the two times World rapid champion blatantly lost to Lei Tingjie of China, almost slipping away from the title. Humpy will be facing Ju Wenjun at the final round while Ukrainian Anna Muzychuk, the current no.1 in the leaderboard with two whole points ahead of Humpy.
