President Joe Biden officially represented the largest White House Diwali celebration in the festival of light, inviting over 600 of India’s great minds and assets to the United States. During the gala, Biden underscored his devotion to diversity in his administration and Cabinet, naming Kamala Harris as the Vice President and other crucial South Asian American officials.
The grand celebration, held in the Blue Room, had Biden lighting the traditional diya as he marked the struggle of South Asian Americans in the United States of America’s democracy during the campaign season. While Kamala Harris and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden stayed home because of campaign business, other distinguished speakers included US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy and NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, who spoke from space.
Discussing the modern issues as in the case with the first WH Diwali, Biden mentioned the new anti-immigrant wave in 2024. On the aspect of inclusiveness the President Josepeh R. Biden said more of the same and reaffirmed his administration’s stand as coming from a diverse country which is the United States of America and is a source of hope for all the communities all over the world.
