weekend weather update light snow southeast northeast
A fast-moving winter storm along an Arctic cold front is set to bring light snow and slippery travel from parts of the Southeast into the Northeast this weekend. This is not a major snowstorm, but even light snowfall could cause travel issues, especially in areas that rarely see winter weather.
Snowflakes may appear as far south as Alabama and northern Florida, though warmer temperatures near the Gulf Coast late Saturday night should prevent snow from sticking. Farther northeast, from Georgia to southeastern Virginia, the storm could bring several hours of steady snow on Sunday.
Weather experts warn that wet-looking roads can quickly turn icy as temperatures fall below freezing. Bridges and overpasses are especially risky and may freeze first.
| Area | Snow Forecast | Main Impact |
| SW Georgia – Delaware | Coating to 1 inch | Slushy, slick roads |
| Raleigh, NC | Up to 1 inch | Icy patches |
| Charlotte, NC | Patchy snow | Light coating |
| Columbia, SC | Coating to 1 inch | Slippery travel |
| Richmond, VA | Up to 1 inch | Snow-covered roads |
| Atlanta, GA | Little to none | Dry air limits snow |
As the storm strengthens near the coast, New York City may see a light coating, while Philadelphia is likely to see little accumulation. Coastal areas from New Jersey to Massachusetts and parts of Maine could receive a few inches of snow.
Snow in New England is expected mainly Sunday night, which may lead to flight delays or cancellations.
Travelers are advised to drive carefully and stay updated on local conditions.
