uae refuses to recognise port sudan authoritys claims severs ties after judgement
The United Arab Emirates has once again affirmed to not recognise the Port Sudan accusations, which were dismissed by the International Court of Justice. UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs official statement stated that the nation “does not recognize the decision of the Port Sudan Authority, as the Port Sudan Authority does not represent the legitimate government of Sudan and its honourable people.”
The United Arab Emirates also reassured that the decision by the Port Sudan Authority will not lead to severing the nation’s ties with Sudan as the latter is not acknowledged as a legitimate government body and has also shared their actions as a reflection after the International Court of Justice’s ruling.
UAE’s standing for not recognising military powers or factional authorities could escalate more violence and inhuman suppression in the already war torn sub par economy of Sudan.
The Security and Defence Council of Sudan said, Sudan has officially severed diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), accusing the Gulf country of violating its sovereignty and supporting the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the ongoing conflict, according to a statement published by the Sudan News Agency.
Meanwhile the UAE Ministry has maintained its status as a neutral mediator and will be aligning with the views of Sudanese Civilian Led government measures which are independent of the military.
Official statement read, “The Ministry stressed that the UAE stands in solidarity with the Sudanese people, in particular the large Sudanese community residing in the UAE, as well as Sudanese visitors, who will not be affected by the recent decisions.”
One the third year of the civil war, UAE released an official statement that urges for immediate peace and said, “Since the outbreak of the conflict, the UAE has provided more than USD 600 million in humanitarian aid to Sudan and neighboring countries—including through UN agencies, impartially, based on need and without discrimination.”
UAE also urges immediate action towards peace stating for a more long term vision for a stable government. While UAE’s stance stays strong, continuous attacks on the Port Sudan region by the RSF have worsened. International bodies like the UN reported more than 30 Million people of Sudan are in need of aid from healthcare to famine relief and several millions fleeing their homes among others forcibly displaced with the declining economy.
