Trump Names Ken Kies as Treasury Tax Policy Chief, Announces Senior Team

Trump’s Treasury Department, which includes key leadership positions, was recently announced, moving the President-elect’s planned economic policy into focus for the year 2025. The appointments include Ken Kies, a respected Republican tax lobbyist, to the office of the assistant secretary for tax policy, which puts him ahead to steer Trump’s planned tax reforms.

Kies, which has a broad client list that ranges from Microsoft Corp. and insurance companies to financial services groups, will be teamed with Scott Bessent, nominated to become Treasury secretary. Perhaps a good example is the case of Samantha Schwab, who has been appointed the deputy chief of staff and who is the granddaughter of billionaire Charles Schwab. She will work under Daniel Katz of the Manhattan Institute who has been named director of staff. Katz has the experience working in Trump’s administration as a senior adviser in the Treasury during his first term.

The appointments were declared by Trump on his Truth Social platform Thursday night. The choice of Schwab brings yet another link to the financial magnates, her grandfather, Charles Schwab who also endorsed Trump with $1 million to his inauguration committee in 2017. These appointments suggest that Trump will seek to make major changes in the tax policy in his possible second term.
