Trump Faces Serious Charges in Georgia Election Case

Former President Donald Trump has been charged with 13 crimes in Georgia. The charges are about Trump’s claimed efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia after he lost there. A 98-page legal document accuses Trump of illegally plotting to change the election outcome by doing criminal activities. Other charges say Trump lied about election fraud and asked government officials to break their oath of office. Trump says not one of the charges towards him is genuine.

Serious Charge: Racketeering

One of the biggest charges against Trump is racketeering. The charges say Trump “illegally plotted” through lying and tricking to change the election outcome. This falls under the racketeering law, which has been used to put big crime bosses in jail.

Asking Officials to Break Oath

Trump faces three counts of asking public officers to violate their oath of office. One count relates to his January 2021 phone call with Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. Prosecutors allege Trump asked Raffensperger to “unlawfully” change certified election results.

Fake Election Documents

Trump is accused of plotting to make fake copies of the document called “Certificate of the Votes of the 2020 Electors from Georgia.” The alleged reason was to trick the public into believing Trump won the election in Georgia.

Lying Statements

Several charges are against Trump for making fake statements and filing faux files. The charges allege the purpose changed into persuading Georgia lawmakers to “reject prison” votes from well-elected officials.
