Trump Not Confident Gaza Ceasefire Will Hold Amid Tensions | Latest Update

US President Donald Trump expressed doubts on Monday about the durability of the ceasefire deal in Gaza, even as he highlighted his role in securing the agreement ahead of his inauguration.

When asked if he believed the truce between Israel and Hamas would hold, Trump replied, “I’m not confident. That’s not our war; it’s their war. But I’m not confident.”

Trump noted that Hamas had been weakened following its October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, which led to a devastating war. “Gaza looks like a massive demolition site,” he commented.

He said, “It’s a phenomenal location on the sea with the best weather. Some beautiful things could be done with it.”

The ceasefire agreement, which began on Sunday, included the exchange of hostages and prisoners. It was initially proposed by former President Joe Biden in May and advanced through joint efforts by Biden and Trump envoys.

Trump showed his support for Israel. One of his first actions in office was to remove sanctions on Israeli settlers in the West Bank, previously imposed by the Biden administration.
