Trump Administration Imposes 25% Tariffs on Global Steel and Aluminum

Under Trump’s leadership, the US enforced 25% customs duties on all steel and aluminum imports from everywhere internationally which prompted quick trade countermeasures against America by its trading partners. Europe started employing customs duties against US products starting on April 1 with measures that targeted boats, motorbikes, and spirits to match imported levies.

Through his economic policy, President Donald Trump achieves success for American citizens according to White House spokesperson Kush Desai. Despite ongoing trade negotiations, the British government expressed disappointment about US protectionist measures when the European Commission called them unjustified.

Paymaster Doug Ford and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick met on Thursday with the trade representative to prevent Canada from facing 50% trade duties. Trump stated on Truth Social that Canada functions as a tariff offender which led to his threat against the nation’s car producers.

Other allies were not spared. Australia considered the tariffs to be invalid yet decided not to take any countermeasures. South Korea’s Trade Minister will discuss important matters with US authorities when he visits Washington while Japan mourns its exclusion from the list. China reacted to US tariff violations by confronting Washington and preparing to defend its commercial rights through all available tools.

Financial markets showed hostile responses when the administration first announced the tariffs but experienced small rises in market price following a drop last week. Experts predict domestic steel and aluminum rates will increase because the US brings in more steel and aluminum from Canada than it exports.
