Texas Wildfire Update: Progress Made, Evacuations in Place at Fredericksburg

Firefighters are fighting against a massive grass fire north of Fredericksburg, Texas. The fire, which had started on Saturday afternoon near Lower Crabapple Road. This spread fire has burned more than 8,640 acres.

The Texas A&M Forest Service reported that 40% of the fire was contained. The strong winds that fueled the flames have finally calmed, allowing crews to slow the fire’s spread.

Fredericksburg Fire Chief Lynn Bizzell said, “Thankfully, the wind has subsided in the Texas Hill Country, and our crews are working to stop the forward progress of the Crabapple Fire” .

Authorities have asked the public to stay away from the area as crews work around the clock to bring the fire under control.

Officials have declared a disaster in Gillespie County, allowing them to close roads and evacuate residents.

According to local reports currently, 33 wildfires are burning across Texas. More than 40,990 acres of land are affected in Texas. Dry conditions and high winds are creating more difficult situation in the city.
