SpaceX Employees Petition to Create Company Town 'Starbase' in Texas
SpaceX, along with the local and state governments to incorporate an entirely new city called Starbase in coastal South Texas. The constructed town of about 1.5 square miles is to be situated near Boca Chica Beach and is expected to encompass 500 individuals, 219 principal occupants and more than 100 children.
The document filed with Cameron County authorities shows that SpaceX security director Gunnar Milburn is set to become the town’s first mayor. The proposed communities mainly include SpaceX employees living in remodeled mid-century modern houses and Airstream trailers in close proximity to SpaceX rocket launch sites.
This move is the latest in turning Texas into a hub for Musk’s business after several of his companies shifted from California. In addition to Starbase, Musk is looking at comparable projects in areas near Bastrop and Austin where SpaceX, and his X company are setting up operations. The petition is still waiting on the county to approve an election to create the new municipality.
