Russia Hosts BRICS 2024 Summit: A New World Order in the Making?

Russia is hosting the latest BRICS summit 2024 from today. The agenda behind it clear to create a “new world order” that challenges the West.

The BRICS is the group of 5 nations. Brazil, Russia, India and China and South Africa. It is group of one of the into most powerful nations outside of the Western world.

BRICS gained more influence after Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates joined in January. Membership in the group is now seen as an appealing option for countries seeking to enhance trade, investment, and economic growth.

Russia is trying to make the allies more stronger, the nation is wooing the moto of  “Global South” — or economically-developing countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America — and contrast to the “Global North” of industrialized nations which is led by USA.

The BRICS summit of 2024 is the 16^th BRICS summit led by Russia is taking place under the theme of “strengthening multilateralism for just global development and security.”

According to the CNBC , Kremlin stating that BRICS leaders will exchange views on “pressing issues on the global and regional agenda,” additionally they said “the three main pillars of cooperation identified by the Russian chairmanship: politics and security, the economy and finance, and cultural and humanitarian ties.”

West is monitoring this year the BRICS+ summit as key discussion will includes Ukraine war, middle eastern tensions, and meeting with global leaders such as India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, China’s President Xi Jinping, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. There are signals that Putin and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian could sign a ‘Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’.
