Remembering D-Day: 80 Years Later, Leaders Gather to Reflect

Today is the 80th anniversary of D-Day, it is a very important event in World War II history. To honor this occasion, US President Joe Biden is in France, on a state visit, joined by French President Emmanuel Macron, British King Charles III—making his first overseas appearance since his cancer diagnosis—and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. This gathering of global leaders highlights the importance of D-Day in shaping the modern world. This day was the milestone in World War II.

What is D-Day?

D-Day, also known as the Normandy Landings, took place on June 6, 1944. It was an important moment in World War II. Allied forces, including those from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and other nations, launched a big invasion on the beaches of Normandy on this day. The aim was to free Western Europe from Nazi control. This operation was named Operation Overlord. This was the largest invasion in history.

The Normandy Landings:

This biggest invasion required detailed planning and coordination between the countries.
