Putin Highlights BRICS Growth, Calls PM Modi a ‘Good Friend’ Before Summit

According to the CNBCTV Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed a desire to collaborate with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote Indian films in Russia, emphasising their popularity.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for consistently raising concerns about the Russia-Ukraine crisis during their discussions. Russian President Putin said that Russia is open to peace talks, but the Ukraine was the not intrested for the negotiations, but it is emphasizing the willingness of Russia to find a peaceful solution.

Russian President Putin called PM Modi a “good friend” and thanked India for supporting a peaceful solution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He mentioned that Ukraine had stepped away from earlier peace talks, while Russia remained open to negotiations.

Before the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan on October 22-23, Russian President Putin agreed with Indian PM Modi’s view that BRICS is “non-Western” rather than “anti-Western.” He talked about the group now expanded from five to ten members, should not be considered a “bloc-style organization.” Putin also highlighted that BRICS makes up 24% of global GDP and 41% of the world’s population, and its growth will benefit countries outside the group as well. Putin emphasized that BRICS is not an anti-Western organization but rather a non-Western one, reiterating Prime Minister Modi’s earlier statement

Putin also talked about the other topics including the slow progress toward creating a shared BRICS currency. He also showed interest in promoting Indian films in Russia. He also talked about the popularity of Indian cinema. Finally Putin shared his concerns about the escalating crisis in Gaza and mentioned that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has been invited to BRICS meetings.
