Norman Reedus’ Son Mingus Arrested in NYC Over Alleged Assault

The son of The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus and model-Helena Christensen, Mingus Lucien Reedus, was arrested in New York City over the weekend due to assaulting a woman in Chelsea. Model and actor, aged 25, called 911 himself following an incident in his apartment involving a woman that was allegedly disturbing. What started as a call of welfare very soon turned into the investigation of an alleged assault by the woman who accused Reedus of punching her, choking her, and slamming her to the ground. The case will contribute to Mingus’ history of legal issues since he had earlier been associated with assault charges in 2022.

Details of the Chelsea Incident and Arrest

According to police reports, Reedus contacted 911 at approximately 8:40 a.m. to the apartment on West 16th Street, indicating that a 33-year-old woman was taking pills and threatening to take her life. However, upon the arrival of the police, the woman reported to authorities that Reedus had beaten her. She was taken urgently to Bellevue Hospital, while Reedus was taken into custody in stable condition.

Witnesses told police that they saw a shabbily dressed Reedus being led away by handcuffs around 9.25 a.m in a green pair of shorts and a black t-shirt. Indictment charges of third-degree assault and criminal obstruction of breathing, both due to the choking allegation, were filed against him.

Reedus later came out of the 10th Precinct smiling at reporters. When he was asked why he had called the police, he denied the call and stated the whole issue was a misconception. A woman who considered herself to be his girlfriend also used the opportunity to say that all reports were untrue. It is not clear who this woman is, to whom the assault complaint had been filed against her.

Prior Assault Case and Legal History

This is not the first time Mingus Reedus has had an encounter with the law. In 2021, he was charged with punching a 24-year-old female in the face at the San Gennaro Festival in Little Italy. The victim, who did not know Reedus, was cut under her left eye and was hospitalized.

In March 2022, that case was settled in a plea agreement. Reedus pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was given a conditional discharge with a one-year probation term to remain uninvolved in further legal incidents and require five counseling sessions. The prosecutors complained that the deal was too lenient at the time, with the victim expressing the frustration that Reedus faced no greater responsibility.

The previous assault charge was shortly after Mingus appeared as the cover boy of Vogue Hommes, furthering gossip on his attitude and image as a so-called “nepo baby” of both Hollywood and fashion royalty.

There is uncertainty about how Reedus will stand during his punishment this time around, where he has enjoyed leniency in the past. Until now, police as well as prosecutors are examining the evidence, and Reedus stands by his innocence as he believes the situation was misinterpreted.
