my fault star gabriel guevara arrested at venice film festival
The star of Amazon Prime’s hit teen film franchise Culpa Mia (My Fault), Gabriel Guevara was arrested at the Venice Film Festival on September 2, a day before he was set to receive a Best Young Actor honour given out by Filming Italy on the sidelines of the festival.
The Spanish actor had an active international arrest warrant out on him for an alleged sexual assault case in France. He is currently in protective custody, with the Venice court of appeals set to rule on his case before he can be extradited.
Meanwhile, the exact charges against him remain unknown. Venice police confirmed the arrest. As the news broke out, Filming Italy cancelled the award, which they said was a “precautionary measure” pending the outcome of the legal action against the actor.
The festival also released a statement via its official Twitter account, confirming Guevara’s presence on the Lido was unrelated to any events or productions concerning the 80th Venice International Film Festival. The arrest was originally reported by Venice daily La Nuova Venezia.
The Spanish star rocketed to European fame in 2018 as Cristian Miralles Haro in the first season of ‘Skam Spain’. His leading role in ‘My Fault’ only increased his profile. He is also known for starring in ‘You’re Nothing Special’ and ‘How to Screw it All Up’.
The Prime Video franchise centres on Noah – played by Nicole Wallace – who had to shift from her hometown to her mom’s new husband’s place, where she meets Nick (her stepbrother). While their personalities initially clash, they eventually run down a romantic path.
Organised by La Biennale di Venezia and directed by Alberto Barbera, the 80th Venice International Film Festival began on August 30 amid the ongoing Hollywood actors and screenwriters strike. It’s taking place at Venice Lido and will wrap up on September 9.
‘Culpa Mia’ debuted on Amazon Prime Video on June 8 and reportedly grabbed the best opening three-day viewership figures for any non-English local original in the history of the service. Keep an eye out on TWR as more details on Guevara’s arrest or alleged assault case surface.
