In 2008, Daniel Andersson and Erika Magnusson wondered about the origins of contemporary electronic devices. Both the directors came up with a creative idea to trace back the journey of production of a pedometer, starting from its sale in Stockholm all the way back to its manufacturing origin in Shenzhen, China. This journey took them through Gothenburg, Insjön, Rotterdam, Bremen, Malaga, and Algeciras. Funding for this movie was provided by Kulturbryggan and the Innovativ Kultur Foundation. This movie was filmed in real time during a trip to and in locations at a factory, following the journey of the product’s manufacture from a store in Stockholm, where the product was purchased, to the factory in China, where it was manufactured.

The logistics movie is popular for its long duration, which is 35 days in total. The movie is an experimental documentary that unfolds in real time. The film follows the entire production cycle of a pedometer in reverse chronological order. The movie starts from the point of sale of pedometers in Stockholm, Sweden, and traces back through various locations, which include Gothenburg, Insjön, Rotterdam, Bremen, Malaga, and Algeciras. The movie concludes at the manufacturer in Shenzhen, China. The movie highlights mundane activities and logistics involved in the global supply chain, challenging viewers with its unconditional format and extended time duration as the movie explores the complexities of modern manufacturing and commerce.

Interesting Facts About the Logistics Movie

1) Although Logistics was released in 2012, the movie had its world premiere in 2014 at the Fringe Film Festival in Shenzhen.

2) The journey of logistics covered Gothenburg, Insjön, Rotterdam, Bremen, Malaga, and Algeciras and ended at a factory in Shenzhen. The film documents real-time transportation by sea, rail, and road.

The route began by train in Stockholm, continued by sea route for four weeks, and then shifted to road transportation via truck for the final destination, Bao’an.

4) Logistics was shown at the Holy Independent Space Art Festival in Dresden, Germany, from June 21 to July 12, 2015.
