Lizzo Shares Her “Weight Release” Story and Wellness Goals

Singer Lizzo has always stood up for body confidence and self-love. But in recent years, she has been open about making changes to feel better — not just physically, but mentally too.

In 2025, Lizzo shared that she had lost 16% of her body fat over almost two years. She called it her “weight release journey” — a term she prefers over “weight loss.” Lizzo says her main focus has always been her mental health, not fitting into a certain size.

She Started in 2023

Lizzo began her journey in 2023. In TikTok videos and interviews, she said she started working out more seriously, not to become thin, but to feel strong and healthy. She shared that regular workouts helped her feel better mentally and emotionally. “Exercise helped me shift my mind, not my body,” she said.

She Reached Her Goal in January 2025

In January 2025, Lizzo posted a big update: she had reached her health goal! She shared two mirror selfies and said, “I did it. I haven’t seen this number since 2014!”

Her health app showed that her Body Mass Index (BMI) had dropped by 10.5 points, and she had lost 16% body fat. Now, she’s ready to set new goals.

Slow and Steady Wins the Race

Lizzo told The New York Times that her progress was slow and steady. She didn’t use quick fixes or extreme diets. Instead, she focused on eating better and working out regularly. “My body has been changing very slowly,” she said. “But not everyone sees that until there’s a big difference.”

She Doesn’t Use the Term “Weight Loss”

Lizzo prefers the term “weight release” instead of “weight loss.” Her boyfriend, Myke Wright, inspired her to think of it that way. “He said, ‘Where did it go?’” Lizzo explained. “It’s like, I don’t want to lose anything. I want to gain strength and confidence.”

She’s Honest About the Ups and Downs

Lizzo says that how she feels about her body changes from day to day. “Some days I adore my body. Other days, not so much — and that’s normal,” she shared.

She also said her views have shifted from body positivity to body neutrality, meaning she doesn’t feel pressure to love her body all the time — just to care for it.

Her Favorite Workouts

To stay active, Lizzo does:

  • Pilates (which helps with back pain)
  • Strength training
  • Long walks
  • Jump rope

She said she tries to move every day, even if it’s something simple. “There’s never a day I regret going for a walk,” she said.

She Denied Taking Ozempic

When some people online asked if she had used Ozempic (a drug some use for weight loss), Lizzo clapped back with humor. In a TikTok post, she joked about the rumors and said she had been working hard through exercise and healthy eating.

Lizzo’s journey is about more than just numbers on a scale. It’s about feeling good, staying strong, and taking care of her body and mind. She continues to inspire fans by being honest, kind to herself, and always putting her health first — on her own terms.
