Justin Trudeau to Announce his Resignation

Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, is expected to declare his intention to resign from the position soon. Increasing scrutiny from the voters back home and his party’s dismal poll ratings have informed insiders that Trudeau may make his decision official before a meeting of his Liberal Party on Wednesday.

Why Is Trudeau Resigning?

Trudeau’s resignation is expected after poor ratings in opinion polls and increasing dissatisfaction within the party. In the latest poll, it halved to single figure percentage and many Liberal parliamentarians have called him to quit the prime minister post. Trudeau’s decision is also believed to stem from a troubling relationship with former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland who abruptly resigned following a public spat over spending limestone policies.  

It raises the specter of the Justin Trudeau resignation scenario, which could see the ruling Liberal Party seeking a new leader in the run-up to a vote due before October. Talks are currently being held concerning the possibility of a temporary premiership with Finance Minister, and fellow New Brunswick Liberal, Dominic LeBlanc mooted for the post.
