jadon sancho set to leave manchester united this summer (1)
Reports say Manchester United plan to sell Jadon Sancho in the summer transfer window. This means Sancho will leave the club and join a new team. It does not matter if Erik ten Hag stays or leaves as the manager.
In January, Sancho went on loan to his former club Borussia Dortmund. This happened after he had an argument with Ten Hag, who is Manchester United’s manager. Their relationship became poor.
While on loan at Dortmund, Sancho has played very well for them in the Champions League. Dortmund would like to keep Sancho permanently. But they cannot afford to pay him the same high wages Manchester United pay. Dortmund also cannot afford to pay a big fee to buy Sancho permanently from United.
One option is for Sancho to go on loan to Dortmund again next season (2024-25). But Manchester United would prefer to sell Sancho permanently to another club, rather than loan him out again.
Manchester United paid £73 million (around $91 million) to buy Sancho from Dortmund in 2021. This was a very big transfer fee. Now that they want to sell Sancho, United would like to get back as much of that money as possible from the buying club.
The future of Erik ten Hag as Manchester United’s manager is also uncertain at the moment. The club will decide if he stays or leaves after the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25th.
Ten Hag has said Sancho could possibly return to Manchester United if he apologizes for his behaviour that led to their argument. However, reports suggest their relationship is too damaged now. It may be better for Sancho to leave and make a fresh start somewhere new.
