Ice Storm Warning: Midwest & Northeast Face Travel Disruptions & Power Outages- Updates
Today a ice storm is hitting the central and eastern United States. The National Weather Service released warnings for upcoming dangers for the Midwest, Northeast, and mid-Atlantic. Freezing rain, sleet, and snow is expected and it will create travel disruptions and power outages.
The National Weather Service reported “The storm will begin in the Midwest, including northern Missouri and Iowa, before moving eastward through the southern Great Lakes. Cities such as Chicago, Cleveland, and Detroit will experience freezing rain and sleet, making travel hazardous.”
Cities like Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., will also witness these conditions overnight, with freezing rain and sleet becoming a major concern. The areas at the greatest risk of dangerous ice accumulation include parts of Pennsylvania, including Harrisburg, Scranton, and State College, as well as Binghamton, New York, and Cumberland, Maryland.
According to the forecast these locations in US could see up to 1/4 inch of ice buildup. Weather department warnes residents to avoid travels as ice can make roads and sidewalks slippery and dangerous.
