Hrithik Roshan-starrer 'Koi...Mil Gaya' to celebrate 20th anniversary with nationwide re-release
To celebrate its 20th release anniversary, Sci-fi hit ‘Koi…Mil Gaya’, starring Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Rekha, Johnny Lever and Prem Chopra, is set to be re-released in PVR INOX screens across 30 cities in India this Friday.
The film, directed by veteran filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, originally hit theatres on August 8, 2003, and delivered the story of a developmentally disabled man named Rohit (played by Hrithik), who befriends an extraterrestrial being called Jadoo.
The director expects the re-release to take movie-goers on a nostalgic trip. In a statement, he recollected how the team at PVR INOX informed him of their plans to celebrate 20 years of the film. He said it was surreal the film continues to be loved after two decades.
Introducing a sci-fi movie with an alien was a risk he was taking as a filmmaker, said Roshan, adding they set out to make ‘Koi…Mil Gaya’ as a children’s film that would be enjoyed by the kids and entertain their families as well.
He called the audience response his biggest reward – bolstering his belief to keep experimenting and making movies on different genres and storylines. The film’s success produced a superhero franchise, beginning with ‘Krrish’ (2006). A fourth film in the franchise is apparently in the works.
