Heavy Flooding Disrupts Canary Islands, Cars Swept Away

After several days of heavy rainfall, severe flooding has hit the Canary Islands, particularly Gran Canaria and Tenerife. Because of this, heavily flooded streets have been submerged, and it is creating difficulties in several holiday spots.

In the town of Telde, Gran Canaria, cars were seen drifting through the streets before being swept out to sea by fast-moving floodwaters. Emergency services have been working non-stop to rescue stranded drivers as the floodwaters uprooted trees and flooded businesses. Locals and tourists have been struggling to move through the rising waters to reach safety.

One of the most dramatic moments occurred in Tenerife where at least 80 people were trapped inside a supermarket as the parking lot filled with water. Emergency teams were forced to pump out the water before shoppers could leave the building.

The storms have continued across the islands, with the national weather agency AEMET issuing a red weather alert for Gran Canaria. They have warned of more heavy rains, hail, and potential snow in the coming days. Due to bad weather advisories are coming out and tourists are advised to stay indoors.

The flooding has also affected local events, including the island’s annual carnival.

Local authorities asked residents and visitors to stay informed and take precautions in this worse season of rainfall. Emergency services remain on high alert, and the situation is being closely monitored. Stay updated!
